Joe O'Connor is a founding member of Barbiero Bisch O'Connor & Commander LLP. His areas of concentration include the defense of claims involving medical, architectural and engineering malpractice, roadway design issues, high exposure property damage, civil rights violations, corporate/commercial litigation, and construction accident litigation. Mr. O’Connor also heads the firm’s motion and appellate practice department.
Mr. O’Connor graduated from Cornell University in 1988 with a bachelor's degree in Science, with a concentration in Genetics. Before enrolling in law school, he attended SUNY Health Science Center of Brooklyn (Downstate) pursuing a medical degree. From his time there, he developed a deep respect for medical practitioners and a strong working medical knowledge that he employs daily in defending doctors, physicians' assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, therapists, and other medical care providers.
Mr. O’Connor graduated from St. John's University School of Law in 1995 and has been affiliated with three well-known defense firms in NYC and Long Island where he honed his mastery of the above-referenced practice areas, handling matters from inception through trial and post-trial appellate practice.
Mr. O’Connor was admitted to practice law in the State of New York, the Eastern District of New York and the Southern District of New York in 1996 and to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the United State Supreme Court in 1997 and 1998, respectively.
